Born and raised in San Diego, CA Mike Berry always loved listening to music but never developed a passion for it until his freshmen year of High School. Around the time of his freshmen year Mike Berry began to jokingly write rhymes that would pop into his head during and after school. While at first he didn’t take these seriously he quickly began too when his friends and other classmates would praise his writing abilities and encourage him to write new rhymes. Mike would then spend the rest of his time in High School perfecting his lyrics and learning to put together real songs. Upon his graduation from High School he was given his first opportunity to enter a recording studio and after laying down his first song Mike knew right away that a career in music had to be his main focus.
In 2004 Mike Berry found himself spending as much time as possible in the recording studio and despite offers from other West Coast labels he tapped into his inner mogul and formed his record label “Money First”. With the formation of his record label Mike Berry and fellow San Diego MC’s Dre.Trav, James Wilson, and Yung Fresh set out to take the San Diego Hip Hop scene by force. Mike Berry’s first release “Money First The Power Of A Dolla” introduced Southern California to Mike Berry and he found himself in high demand for shows and features. Over the next couple of years Mike Berry and Money First kept a strangle hold on the Southern California music industry releasing back to back solo mix tapes from Mike Berry entitled “Yup” and “Off Top.” The mix tapes “Money First Radio” and “Free Vol. 1” followed these closely and featured the entire Money First roster. These releases combined with Mike Berry’s tireless networking led the label too secure the cover of “Underground RailRoad Magazine” as well as perform alongside a number of major label artists including Soulja Boy, Pretty Ricky, Bow Wow and Omarion. Between shows and the barrage of mix tapes, Money First was releasing, the streets of Southern California were flooded with Money First music and Mike Berry who is always thinking of ways to expand the brand launched Money First Clothing and Money First Films. Both of these led too the Money First name and logo gaining even more recognition in the Southern California region.
Mike Berry and his company Money First Entertainment have stepped out and confidently set the standard for new music coming out of the West Coast. With his plans to continue releasing new music while also expanding the clothing and film divisions of Money First it will only be a matter of time until Mike Berry is aggressively bringing the spotlight of the music industry back to the West Coast.
